Darfur is dying…

By Tony_Cassidy

Year 8 students have asked for more geographical simulations, this is one that is both topical and distressing.

Play the game and learn about the situation. Are we linked to the conditions facing people in Darfur? I’d be interested to know what you learn from this, which ever year…

One major question is, did you know this was happening and what should the United Kingdom do about it?

I’ve already done a little bit.

Thanks to Noel Jenkins for informing me about this, the Darfur Wall is a charity project aimed at raising money for local people caught up in the conflict. Donate a $ and a numbered square is lit, representing one of 400,000 individuals in the Darfur region that have died. My square is 1076.

  6. Tony_Cassidy Says:

All the people, a bit of a sweeping generalisation! A region called Darfur, where is it? Why are people having these problems?

I think the game is horrible. it made me dead on edge and i even got scared myself :( . i think they are very hard condiditions and im glad i got the chance to try again unlike people who live thier.

  8. Tony_Cassidy Says:

Interesting comment, why did it make you scared? More important, what should we do about it?

  9. snelly Says:

well when you have you run and hide it was dead on edge and my heart started beating dead fast :O

  10. Tony_Cassidy Says:

Yes, it’s a strange world, especially as we take some things for granted, such as having fresh water.

  11. snelly Says:

who are those men in the trucks by the way ?

  12. Tony_Cassidy Says:

Do some reading with regards the background of the game? You tell me, who are they and why are they chasing children who are fetching water?

  13. paige Says:

Is it to capture them and have them as slaves

  14. jack Says:

this game freaks me out we do take water and food for granted having to put your life at risk is horrible and those pathetic other tribes capturing people

  15. Tony_Cassidy Says:

The problem is that this area is off the World radar, the Government is also not particularly stable. I echo your sentiments Jack.

Paige some aren’t so lucky :(

  16. Paige Says:

oh so some get killed or used as slaves or have to starve or dihydrate
