Pop-up Hurricane Cross Section- Style over substance?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

After marking coursework for most of the day, I wanted to do something creative.

I find hurricanes difficult to explain, so decided on the pop-up route.

I haven’t uploaded it to R.G. yet, because I’m still deciding whether it has merit. I’d use it with my Katrina resources.

What do you think?

Hurricane Katrina

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Year 9 wanted to look at Hurricanes next, so I’ve decided to use Hurricane Katrina, I suppose I can then compare it to the more recent Burma Cyclone. So started to update some of my old, and they looked old, resources.

Also added a Grade or No Grade game for climate.

Still working through some of my geographically related Christmas presents, I’m now a proud sponsor of the Greenhouse School for Children in Cameroon, thanks to Born Free Foundation. Looking forward to updates.

Questionmarc – Nottingham’s answer to Banksy?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Nice bit of Cultural Geography, useful for the final presentation related to place…

Questionnmarc, hero to some, villain to others, loving their use of space to highlight issues in Nottingham.

First it was the lack of public toilets, the city is keen to promote Nottingham’s nightlife, but the redevelopment of the Old Market Square has left no public toilets, walking to work after the weekend is a highly aromatic experience…

Then a comment  about tourism in the city, where is Robin? Particularly topical after the closure of Nottingham’s only Robin Hood attraction, the Tales of Robin Hood.

River Processes- Aerobic style…

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Added some new rivers resources. I think something similar has been done with Kung Fu, but I like aerobics- fits nicely with my pacifist tendencies. :)

Just need a dance track now.

After going through the different processes I ask students to reproduce them in cartoon form, if available we use MS Paint, some prefer the ‘old skool’ way.

Similar idea to the rainfall aerobics.

Much to think about, especially the link between materialism and happiness- the new development?
