Living with Floods- Assessment 2.

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Tomorrow you will begin your second piece of coursework for the living with floods module, based on the concept of sustainable flood management. I’ve now produced a support page for the blog, L.W.F.2, which I’m sure will develop over the coming weeks. Due to the disruption caused by the mocks you have an extended period to complete this, the deadline is Friday 14th of December. Usually rules apply…  :)

Cyclone hits Bangladesh…

Friday, November 16th, 2007

bangladeshcyclone I’ve been following this story from last night, it seems strange to think that only three weeks ago I was stood in the capital Dhaka, we are waiting to hear news from our new friends in Bangladesh.Hopefully I will have time tomorrow to complete the third day of my journey. For Year 11 this may become the case study in the third piece of the living with floods coursework. If you finish to read further you can see the links I’m gathering here.

Year 11 Flooding Coursework Part.1

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Year 11 should all check their College or home email with details of their individual hand in dates, with the exception of those people still on good old paper. :)

Wanda and we’re off….

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Year 10 should have their minds focused on Wanda… I will prepare my second group, option 1, tomorrow for the coursework task. I will also email people about how you can access help and about deadlines.

I will be out on training on Friday, so please make the best use of your time. Miss Dubas will be working with option.1 .

Option 2, the Wednesday and Friday group, have a deadline of Friday 23rd of November.

Option 1, the Thursday and Friday group, have a deadline of Friday 30th of November. This is because this group is starting their work later.

All work, with the exception of posters, should be emailed to me electronically. Please do not miss the deadline, otherwise your work will not be marked. I will except no excuses.

Thanks to Year 11, some great looking pieces of flooding coursework. We will finish our preparations for the second task next week.

Best Wishes….

Black Gold and Survived

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

51PmJ4LE%2BvL__AA240_ It seemed at some parts of the week that my body would just give in, but I think I’ve managed to survive the Bangladesh jet lag and the stomach is becoming better. Looking forward to watching Black Gold about the production of coffee, catching up with sleep, reading some entries from other Geogblogs, especially Alan’s (I wonder how his students are getting on…) and preparing for next week. Year 11 should be putting their finishing touches to their flooding coursework, whilst Year 10 will be contemplating Wanda….

Living with Floods Assessment.1

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

_39138556_floodsign203 Sorry about the lack of blogging Year Ten and Eleven, I’ve just been up to my eyes with work, as many of you have. :) After half-term I promise to get into the usual routine…

My group of Year 11 Geographers should be researching and drafting their coursework, a case study of a flood, over the half-term, ready for writing up in the computers rooms when we return. I’ve now set up a support page on the blog with associated resources and links. I’ll decide the deadline when we return.

I’m sorry that I won’t be able to provide support over the half-term, I shall be in Bangladesh, which is the case-study in our third piece of coursework.

Please remember that work in Year 11 is now worth 50% of your total mark.

Well done on the Coca-Cola work… :)

Year Ten, get ready to meet Wanda…. ;)

Rivers and my experience with a tornado…

Monday, September 24th, 2007

_44134633_busdepot_damage203 Year 11, after a small, but necessary rant from me, on the repetitive theme of ‘important year’,  we started our new topic, coping with floods. Remember that this year is worth 50% of the course, thank you for handing your work in on time. (with the exception of those that were away, their due date is Monday 1st of October.) I will be looking over your work at the weekend and I’ll also blog in more detail about our first lessons on our topic. The day was particularly bad, very tired and this morning managed to walk into Nottingham through a tornado…. I just thought it was a bit wet and windy, I was much more worried about my hair! :) Some more information about this event can be found at the B.B.C. .

Survived another injection at the doctor’s, course complete, and visited home, where I had the usual education debates with my soon to be starting a PhD brother…

Message to Year 11 and a preview…
