Black Gold and Survived

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

51PmJ4LE%2BvL__AA240_ It seemed at some parts of the week that my body would just give in, but I think I’ve managed to survive the Bangladesh jet lag and the stomach is becoming better. Looking forward to watching Black Gold about the production of coffee, catching up with sleep, reading some entries from other Geogblogs, especially Alan’s (I wonder how his students are getting on…) and preparing for next week. Year 11 should be putting their finishing touches to their flooding coursework, whilst Year 10 will be contemplating Wanda….

Wanda off to Antarctica! – Year 10.

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

wanda Year 10 will start their first piece of coursework over the next two weeks, the coursework support page has now been completed. Wanda is off to Antarctica, and needs some help. As the Year 11 will tell you Wanda is slightly clueless, she tends to pop-up throughout the course, by the way Year 11 she is likely to return in Cultural Geography! I imagine she has little culture. ;)

I will provide timings for the work and deadlines once we have begun. After being briefed you can start at any time. Remember your presentation format is up to you! :)

Any tips from Year 11 about this piece?

Cultural Objects.3

A nice reflective post on my cultural objects task from Kenny, I’d been interested to see his students’ work, I wonder if there will be a difference between Scottish and English teenagers in their choices.

Google Maps-Berlin Style.

A trip down memory lane for some, for others you have the fun to come. :) One of the walks on the MFL-Humanities Berlin visit, using embeddable Google Maps, with thanks to Stringy for the video. Direct link.

Alan and Mrs Alan have produced their responses to my cultural objects task, interesting reading…

Earthquakes, floods, falling stocks and Elvis..

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I’ve been enjoying watching my investments fall in value over the last week, another example of globalisation, American banks giving loans to people who can’t afford to pay them back… and I was distressed to find out that Elvis was dead.

On a more serious note a strong earthquake in Peru has lead to several hundred deaths.

Alan has highlighted an article on about the potential of London flooding, some great animations as well. Some further reading can be found here and here on the blog.

exploreant

New to those Year 10 Geographers who may be reading already and revision of our extreme environment for Year 11 Geographers, exploring Antarctica via the Washington Post. Some nice multi-media resources on here, especially of the Dry Valleys. With thanks Geogtastic.
