Culture clash…

_42523449_rowan_williams_pa_body Some interesting comments from the Archbishop of Canterbury have sparked a controversial debate. The Archbishop has suggested that Islamic Sharia  law is now unavoidable in some parts of the United Kingdom, and would help social cohesion in our multicultural society. Is this a case of an ethnic minority influencing the dominant culture? Or a counter culture providing a threat to the dominant culture? An interesting quote from the Archbishop

He says Muslims should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty“.

Some strong reactions on the B.B.C. comments page. There is also a little irony here, the Archbishop is representative of the dominant culture of the country, but is advocating a change that some view will weaken it.

Also thanks to Alan for sending me this link which explores some youth subcultures.

A little late may be for your personal responses… which should be with me by tomorrow evening. 🙂
